when algorithms bring silly videos

My husband has been retired for a few years, and he’s spent some time on YouTube. But recently, after eye surgery made him a more permanent #couchcrew member, he’s spent more time there.

YouTube, being a product of Google, anticipates your interests and often opens with a line of thumb-nails “recommended” — based upon your viewing. My honey watches all his hobbies, from fishing and hunting, to flying, music and music history, plain old history to sound enginering informationals that make my head hurt.

Lately, for reasons we can’t fathom, the algorithm machine has been wild, and some of the videos slipped into the mix have been head-scratchingly unanticipated.,

The silliest and most enjoyable came up this week. It showed up late and night, when I’d fallen asleep to “Downtown Abby” in another room. (He couldn’t believe I didn’t hear him singing along; it’s that kind of thing LOL.)

Since then, we’ve watched the original YouTube cartoon from 2006 (how on earth DID that show up in the randomness?!), and discovered this particular silliness goes back to 1996, and Dana Lynch has been dining out on it since then.

Various creatives have attempted other versions of the narrative including claymation, but the cartoon is the best. The animation is fun and the subtitles make sure we don’t miss any of the pun-driven story.

But the chorus! Mariachi horns and all!

(We’ve been singing it for two days and we’re not even vegetarians.)

And the thrilling ending to the whole “Alice’s Restaurant”-like saga involves chickens!

These days they’re trying to make cows culprits in our demise. Environment destroying farts and all. But I’m a big fan. Always have been. I’m planning a cow painting even now, and was laying it out before the “Chicken Run”-like video turned up.

This is a dangerous video. But you’re guaranteed to at least chuckle. Happy Friday
